City Dogs
Use your words, to get ahead. Race a herd, to dropping dead. Or use your words, to crack an egg. Yellow yolk, dripping down your leg.
The city dogs are baying at the city moon. Whatever’s left, forgotten soon.
On your mark, pack it in. Black coffee and moody medicine. Dishwater is cloudy bliss. Those who looked always found it like this.
The city dogs are baying at the city moon. There’s a warmth beside the gloom. And both our lives are still in bloom. The city dogs are still baying at the city moon.

Shake

Shake
Shake, baby shake. That’s what the Lord built you for. Shake, baby, shake, if you won’t hurt no more.
I don’t mind you running, all around town, cause you got enough, to go around.
Shake, baby, shake. That’s what the Lord built you for. Take, baby, take, if you won’t hurt no more.
I gave you everything I owned, went out to steal you more. I shot a man, cause you were feeling sore.
Shake, baby, shake. That’s what the Lord built you for. Break, baby, break, and you won’t hurt no more.
I’ll take you in my arms, to the other shore. I’ll carry your body to meet the Lord.

Lovely Girl

Lovely Girl
You’re a lovely girl, deserve so much I don’t concede. I can’t get anywhere, stuck here fixing my own needs. But in a meadow, in my mind upon a hill, we’re walking barefoot. You walk ahead and you’re my girl.
You’re a lovely girl, so much it makes me feels afraid, you couldn’t fit right, in the careless world I made. But in a meadow, in my mind upon a hill, out on a blanket, you kiss my face and you’re my girl.
What’s giving up. What’s given up.
We can see the whole town, every light in the whole town from here.
You’re a lovely girl. I’m gonna try to get to you. If it don’t work out, there’ll just be one thing left to do. And in that meadow, in my mind upon a hill, we’re watching stars fade, you hold my hand and you’re my girl. You took my hand and you’re my girl.

Rainboots
I got pristine rainboots on my feet, and I’m ready. I got dirty puddles in the street, and I’m ready. Oh, Lord.
I got busted knuckles on my fists, and I’m ready. I got broken teeth behind my lips, and I’m ready. Oh, Lord.
Can’t you hear me, Lord? Can’t you see me, Lord?
I got a brand-new prayer that should do the trick, and I’m ready. Life’s been hard, it’s time I deal with it, and I’m ready. Oh, Lord.

Sure Thing
Don’t mind waiting on a sure thing, baby.
Someday you’ll fill my bowl. Someday you’ll fill my cup. Someday I’ll be able to say, baby, I’ve had enough.
Don’t mind waiting on a sure thing, baby.
Someday before we get too old, all my sweat’s gonna turn to gold. We’ll get a nice place on the outskirts of town, and start our fold.
Don’t mind waiting on a sure thing, baby.
But who’s gonna stick, and who’s gonna split from our sturdy plan. You think I got another girl? Baby, I know for a fact you got yourself another man.
The long black train is coming. Get all your business right.
I shot my baby down.
Here I sit on lonely row, staring at a big black hole. It’s not so bad you know, when the state picks the day that you’re gonna go.
Don’t mind waiting on a sure thing baby.

Can’t Find (What I Need)
I can’t find what I need, but I got you.
I remember screaming, being born. I remember my mother crying when I left home. I remember realizing I’d spend all my days alone, looking for something I’ve always needed, something I’ve never even know.
I can’t find what I need.
I got some sunny days, and sometimes it rains. Sometimes I think I’m catching up, sometimes I think I’m going the wrong way.
Don’t tell me you love me, don’t tempt me like that. You don’t know where I’ve been, where I’m going, or where my head’s at. But I feel your love, warm on my back, and I know deep down you’re just like me, and we always got that.
I can’t find what I need, but I got you.

Prayer Blues
I’m here at your window, cause I know I need a change. If I could just see your face behind my reflection in the pane.
Meeting the eyes of loved ones, I can’t help but cry. It’s cruel to plant a garden when your well’s run dry.
That’s why I’m here.
